Student readiness, interest &LEARNER PROFILE
How to differentiate
Learner Characteristics:
- Student Readiness: This has to do with a students current preparedness to work with a prescribed set of knowledge, understanding and skill. Our best understanding of learning tells us that each of us learns best when a task is a little to difficult for our current level of knowledge, understanding and there is a support system in place to help us bridge the gap. (Tomlinson p. 9)
- Student Interest: A wise teacher links required content to student interest to hook the learner. All students have different interests and assuming that all boys like cars and all girls like barbies is not a good way to think. Instead assess your students interests so that you can modify instruction and content for THEM. (Tomlinson p. 9-10)
- Student Learning Preference/Learning Profile: The way the student learns best. The different learner preferences visual, auditory/verbal linguistic, kinesthetic, tactile, active, reflective, global understanding and analytical learner. (Tomlinson p. 10)
